Native Americans feel somewhat aggrieved that there is a holiday for Columbus Day, commemorating the discovery of

the American continent by Europeans, but that there is no recognition of the native inhabitants who were already there.

There is an on-going campaign for a day to be set aside as a holiday to honor Native Americans. This has not received too much general support. Some say another holiday would simply mean huge financial loss to the country.

There is an online petition that anyone who supports the idea can sign up. The petition can be found here.
